Salubrious Place gets go-ahead

“ASPERS” AT HOME IN SWANSEA

A gaming license for Aspinalls Casino Group at Swansea’s £30 MILLION entertainment complex, SALUBRIOUS PLACE has been granted.

James Osborne, managing director of Aspinalls, one of the UK’s leading casino operators was quoted as saying, “We can now fulfil our goal of creating a unique leisure experience for Swansea. This is all about entertainment.” He went on to say, “We want to be the night out in Swansea for all age groups and all pockets, with the emphasis on enjoyment and the added benefit of being able to leave with a jackpot that could buy the holiday of a lifetime or even a new car.”

The 100,000 sq ft complex will feature Las Vegas style electronic gaming and slot machines with prizes reaching £1 million. Scheduled to open in 2006 to coincide with the new gaming regulations it will be the first of a series of new regional casinos under the new laws.

Aspinalls plan to open 12 similar casinos throughout the UK. The company will recruit locally wherever possible and will establish a training facility in the city that will also act as a springboard for Aspinalls’ other future casinos in the UK.

Swansea is Wales’s second largest city, hometown of actress Catherine Zeta Jones & poet Dylan Thomas, has a population of 250,000. It enjoys an impressive tourist trade, becoming the UK’s first “area of outstanding natural beauty”.

The complex will add to the growing attraction of Wind Street in the city centre and the international award winning Maritime Quarter.

The first phase of the project is well under way, with the first tenants set to move in before Christmas. The Salubrious Place Hotel, a 116 room Premier Lodge Hotel, 20 residential apartments, a 12 screen cineplex, an auditorium with capacity for 400, night clubs, bars, restaurants and retail outlets, will all complement the casino.

Richard Hayward of Brunswick Mansford, the site developers, said “The future of Swansea’s leisure industry has never been more promising. We have maintained a tight rein on the tenant mix to ensure the region’s landmark leisure destination.”

Work on the second phase including “Aspers” casino, is set to start this month.
