Earlier this month SkyCity Entertainment confirmed to shareholders that revenues for January and February were tracking well despite the challenging economic environments in Australia and New Zealand. A key contributing factor was continued good revenue at the company’s Adelaide casino. Chief Executive Officer Nigel Morrison said that following a repositioning of the business Adelaide revenues were up 20% year on year in February.
“This involved moving away from more of a nightclub environment to more of a casino gaming environment. The layout and presentation of the venue have been upgraded and we have improved our customer service. We’ve focused on improving the quality and variety of games for our customers, which included installing shuffle machines onto popular blackjack tables and also introduced Rapid Roulette enhancing the customer offering and experience.”
SkyCity is now considering a move from the heritage-listed railway station site in Adelaide to relocate in the city where there would be room to develop a hotel casino complex. Talks have yet to commence with the State Government, which owns the present site, and plans could take up to two years to realise. The company has stressed that the project is only at the conceptual stage and there are no indications of where a new Adelaide casino would be built. (E-03.30.09)
