The Latin American Gaming Association (ALAJA) has become the natural representative for the activity and industry of gaming for the whole region and, accompanying the commercial growth with innovative vision, has been the pioneer in establishing a Responsible Gambling Programme and empowering Business Responsibility in the industry.

The mandate of the Associates and the firm purpose and determination of the Governing Board of ALAJA in respect of Social Responsibility in Business, has led the Association to present conferences on the prevention of money laundering and prevention and continuing fight against illegal gaming; themes that are of permanent interest to those involved in the region’s gaming industry.

At present ALAJA is developing a unique publication that will be of great value for the industry.

The governing body of ALAJA has commissioned from professional experts in addictive behaviours a manual on Responsible Gaming for the instruction of gaming operation personnel on the subject of gambling addiction. The manual will give principle and practical information for businesses in the sector to adopt in order to mitigate the effects of gambling disorders.

The idea is to train the staff of each gaming business in the basic elements of problem gambling, so that they can establish guidelines for the identification of gambling disorders and offer the help of addiction treatment centres.

With the publication of the Responsible Gambling Manual, ALAJA wants to offer its associates, and the community as a whole, a staff training tool and applicable knowledge for daily use to avoid difficulties arising, for collaboration in the prevention of gaming addiction, and for the formation of a programme of preventive measures. This will underline the importance of gaming as entertainment basing it on the principles of Responsible Play and Social Responsibility of businesses.

The Manual will contain five chapters, gathered from a base of information, prevention and self exclusion. The contents will be simple and didactic, written in easily understood language with plans and examples to aid comprehension. (E-10.03.07)
