Luxuriant Masterpiece Collection resorts planned

Six casino licences in Guatemala

In November 2008 Alekson Development Group affiliate Fin City Associates, a Guatemala-based business and real estate development company, signed a licence agreement with the Guatemala government for six world-class casino resorts to be constructed over the next ten years. The planned gaming destination resorts will be built in places such as Guatemala City, Lake Atitlan, UNESCO World Heritage site La Antigua, and Flores El Peten near the Tikal Mayan ruins.

The Luxuriant Masterpiece Collection resort brand was introduced in April 2009 to integrate ‘the broadly appealing convergence of world-class casino gaming, extraordinary ultra luxury hospitality services, incomparable culinary experiences, luxuriant spa therapies, eco-wellness and fitness programmes, exclusive tennis camps and celebrity golf courses.’ Luxuriant international asset manager Horizon Hotels operates more than 100 hospitality properties. Cindy Olcott, Horizon Hotels President and CEO, says “Each distinctive Luxuriant Masterpiece Collection 300-500 acre showcase setting is uniquely crafted to reflect the ambient natural environment embracing each resort venue.”

"Each resort is unique in design and personality, each a celebration of Latin America’s vibrant spirit, all woven together with the common thread of impeccable Luxuriant Masterpiece Collection service and meticulous attention to detail”, states Jim Alekson, Alekson Development Group President. “Where more than a guest’s arrival is anticipated and where discriminating lifestyle meets Luxuriant-Class global adventure."

Guatemala, south of Mexico, seems a logical place for tourism development with its Pacific and Caribbean coasts, jungles and mountains. Once the casinos are operational a minimum 20% of net gaming win will go to the Guatemala Pediatric Association, with a further percentage donated to other charities and government social benefit agencies. In the future the Luxuriant brand may expand into other Latin American countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Cuba and Peru. (E-08.03.09)
