Taiwan’s Gaming Bill, which passed its first reading on 30 May this year, is now being reviewed by the Economic Committee before being tabled for a second reading. The Executive Yuan has also recently issued a directive to the Interior Ministry to facilitate the legalisation of gaming in Penghu as pledged by President Ma during his election campaign.
The Remote Islands Act has been amended to allow duty free shops in the outer offshore islands to begin trading next month. President Ma took office last month and stated that he would actively push for legislation governing the development of offshore islands, which includes a statute allowing the operation of casinos on Penghu. Isle of Man registered AMZ Holdings PLC is one company with a vested interest in seeing a Taiwanese casino law enacted. The company intends to build a world-class casino resort with a multi-level casino and 600-room hotel on a 27-acre beachfront location.
In September 2007 Chairman David Mathewson said, “Our development gained real momentum this past year and we have seen this continue into the current period. Now that the land is fully in our ownership the Company is able to commence the initial phase of our development. We remain confident that with events unfolding regarding the enablement of gaming in Taiwan, we have reached an exciting time in Amazing’s development and will see momentum continue over the next 12 months.” (E-06.13.08)
