While Nevada’s Gaming Control Board has just announced January figures for gaming win (3.22% down on January 2009), the New Jersey Casino Control Commission has released February’s Atlantic City casinos’ win. Beset by ever increasing competition from Pennsylvanian slots casinos that are now preparing to offer table games, recently even the heavens have been against Atlantic City, which reported the heaviest snowfalls ever recorded in February.
Three major snowstorms in New Jersey meant fewer people travelling to the casinos last month and casino revenues in consequence were down 15.7% to US$261.6 million. All eleven casinos reported a revenue fall – Atlantic City Hilton Casino Resort was down the most (32.6%) and even the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, usually a top performer, had its largest ever monthly decline (20.6%). Caesars Atlantic City was the best performer, showing only a 0.3% decline, attributed to a 27.9% increase in table game win.
Results reported to the New Jersey Casino Control Commission show that the eleven casinos won US$176.2 million at the slot machines and another US$85.4 million at table games in February. Slot revenue decreased by 17.8% while table revenues decreased 11%. So far in 2010, the Atlantic City casinos are down 12% from the amount won in the first two months of 2009, continuing a 4-year decline in revenue. (E-03.12.10)
