According to an announcement made by Boyd Gaming Corporation yesterday, its acquisition of a 40-acre site in northwest Las Vegas will expand its presence in the locals gaming market. With new residents arriving in the city at an unprecedented rate and increasing the Las Vegas metropolitan area substantially, the northwest sector is developing rapidly. The parcel of land, acquired at a cost of US$35 million, is zoned for casino development.
Bill Boyd, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Boyd Gaming, commented, "Growing our strong franchise in the Las Vegas locals market has been a significant priority for our Company. This site is very well situated in a major growth corridor in the northwest part of Las Vegas with a location that is a perfect complement to, and not in conflict with, our other properties that serve Las Vegas locals.” Work should begin next year on a full-service casino hotel.
Forbes Magazine recently recognized Boyd Gaming as the best managed company in the category Hotels, Restaurants and Leisure. The company operates 19 gaming entertainment properties around the United States and is developing Echelon Place as a world-class destination on the Las Vegas Strip, scheduled to open in 2010. This latest acquisition in Las Vegas is intended to consolidate the company’s strong and growing position in the Las Vegas locals gaming market. (E-02.14.06)
