The impact and reach of games of chance in Colombia will be analyzed

CIJA TO PRESENT STUDY IN FADJA 2008

Illegal gambling will be one of the main topics discussed during FADJA 2008 in Bogota, Colombia, during April 2-3. For Colombia's national government illegal gambling reaches some three trillion pesos (US$541 million), which is the estimated amount that Colombians spend annually in entertainment and games of chance.

According to Baltazar Medina, president FEDEAZAR, the Colombian Gaming Business Federation, organizer of the debate: "In this event, the O\Gobernment will be shown that there is a need for the gaming sector to be treated as a mainstream economical activity that merits to be considered as an integral part of the productive sector and a great contributor to the economical and social development of the country".

At the Colombia expo, Medina will present a study done by CINSET, the Corporation for the Colombian Social Economical and Technological Investigation, where the impact of the gaming industry in Colombia is analyzed. Medina added: “We have the intention to bring into the open two very important propositions. The first one is to present to the Government what we in the industry believe to be the basis of public policy for gaming in Colombia, so that the Government effects the level of importance relative to our sector for undertaking of the appropriate action.

“And using that public policy as a framework, the government should try to obtain from the National Planning Office and the Vice-Ministry of Educational Development, proposals to advance in the formulation of a CONPES document for the gaming industry. This document would be the macro regulation framework for all the regulatory bylaws, laws and decrees to stimulate the development of the gaming activity. These are the two tasks left to the Federation and the association for the future.”

The meeting programmed by FECEAZAR and FADJA 2008 for the II International Gaming Fair (CIJA) will contribute in a decisive manner to the interchange of experiences and results that we have seen in the different countries in the fight against illegal gambling, and the undertaking of operators to promote responsible gaming, the search of incentives for those who follow the law, the generation of policies for the prevention of money laundering, as well as the development of technology applied to the operation of games of chance.
