192 SafeBet technology to help combat fraud and underage gambling

CITADEL COMMERCE RESPONDS TO INDUSTRY NEEDS

The leading e-commerce payment solutions provider, Vancouver-based Citadel Commerce Corporation, has entered an agreement with 192.com Business Services to provide a robust identity verification solution that will assist its efforts to promote socially responsible gaming by combating fraud and underage gambling. Citadel Commerce operates myCitadel, the most flexible payment solution available, and the use of 192 SafeBet technology will give the company the ability to identify its customers every time they place a bet online.

192 SafeBet is a strong data verification tool and a powerful deterrent to underage gamblers. The technology initiates an automatic call-back facility when new users register online and the voice is recorded as age and identity confirmation is given. According to Mike Jones, Director of Business Development at Citadel Commerce, “192 SafeBet provides us with greatly improved confidence that each customer is who they say they are,” and adds “the last thing we want is to allow a ten year old child with a parent’s credit card to gamble online. As a prominent global provider, we have a responsibility to provide due diligence in this area.”

As an identity authentication specialist 192.com Business Services provides business solutions to companies that need to verify ages or identities for commercial or compliance purposes. The technology is based on that at 192.com, established in the UK in 1997, which has been called the ‘most powerful people finder known to man’. Keith Marsden, Managing Director at 192.com Business Services, said of the agreement with Citadel Commerce, “Citadel Commerce came to us with a challenge: it wanted to expand its services internationally and needed a robust and powerful tool with international reach to help them with its customer identification.” He commented that an underage gambler was no more likely to leave a voice recording than they would be to walk into a betting shop on the high street.

Citadel is part of the ESI group of companies that includes ESI Integrity and PlayLine. ESI has provided product-based solutions to over 20 international government lotteries, over 65% of USA regulated horseracing pari-mutuels, every horseracing industry venue in Canada and to most of the Internet gaming industry. In excess of $20 million a month is processed by Citadel and the figure is growing by about 10% monthly. The agreement signed with 192.com Business Services is Citadel Commerce’s response to the gaming industry need for more effective means to control fraud and ensure socially responsible gambling. The leading edge technology will first be used in France, Spain and Germany but the intention is to add many more countries in the near future. (E-07.28.05)
