The Gambling Commission this week launched its new conditions and codes of practice for all operators in the British gambling industry wanting to run a gambling business from next year. The new regulations will be summed up in licence conditions and codes for the industry and will, for the first time, include the betting and remote gambling sectors.
Peter Dean, chairman of the Gambling Commission stated, "Britain's gambling laws are undergoing wholesale reform and from September next year all operators must be licensed by the Gambling Commission. The conditions and codes set out the rules which operators must observe to meet our three licensing objectives of keeping crime out of gambling, ensuring that gambling is fair and open, and protecting children and other vulnerable people.”
There will be new conditions under which licences are granted to gambling operators and their staff as well as new codes of practice. The Commission will have significant new legal powers to monitor the industry and to prosecute illegal gambling. It will also advise central and local government on issues related to gambling.
Responses are also published, summarising how the Commission has taken into consideration the responses to consultations and incorporated those views into the above regulations. A Regulatory Impact Assessment which sets out the Commission's assessment of the regulatory impact of the conditions and codes will be published shortly.
