The three new casino licences up for grabs in Chile will today bring the formal presentation of projects before the Gaming Board (SCJ), after which the process will immediately move to the prequalification of the companies concerned and the technical evaluation of their proposals. A final decision on the award of the three licences will be announced on 30 August.
The Polaris Group, recently acquired by Casinos Austria for US$4.99 million, has indicated that it is competing for licences in Ovalle, Castro and Coyhaique. Enjoy, owned by the Chilean Martinez family, is to reapply for a licence in Chiloe. In the first casino licensing process the company was unsuccessful in its bid, but still believes that from a tourism point of view the location complements its other operations.
The Fischer Group continues to be interested in potential locations in Curico, Romeral and Coyhaique. Citigroup is also likely to present projects for Ovalle and Coyhaique, although so far has not made its intentions clear. Coyhaique, in the remote Aisen Region, seems to be the preferred location for a licence. The surrounding rivers and mountains create some of the most beautiful scenery in Patagonia, which is increasingly popular with tourists. (E-03.31.08)
