Wyndham Nassau Resort & Crystal Palace Casino upgrade

POKER POPULARITY REACHES THE BAHAMAS

This month the Crystal Palace Casino at the Wyndham Nassau Resort on Cable Beach will be completely refurbished. The casino, one of the largest in the Caribbean, is to get new state-of-the-art slot machines, additional gaming tables and a new poker room. The recent poker craze has seen many casinos reassessing the value of providing poker facilities and operators Baha Mar intend to introduce daily live poker from September 1, making the Crystal Palace Casino the first in The Bahamas to do so.

The gaming floor will be reconfigured to accommodate the additional slot machines and gaming tables, and over US$4 million has been allocated for the upgrade. When completed the Crystal Palace will have 750 slot machines, including 460 with the newest technology. Floor and ceiling refurbishment will also be carried out, there will be a more prominent Players Club and the Sports Book will get the new High Definition televisions. Casino entertainment has not been forgotten and a diverse show schedule will start at the end of August.

J. Duff Taylor, VP of casino operations, speaking at a recent meeting of casino associates refuted claims that Baha Mar was seeking to replace Bahamian dealers in what will become the largest casino in the Caribbean. Stating that not a single dealer had lost his or her job since the company took over the casino he added, “We’re committed to your job security. You are here and we intend to move forward with you into our new complex.”

In March 2005 Baha Mar Development Company purchased the Radisson Cable Beach Resort from the government-owned Bahamas Hotel Corporation and also the Nassau Beach Hotel and Wyndham Nassau Resort & Crystal Palace Casino from developer Philip Ruffin. The three adjacent properties along Nassau’s largest beach are being consolidated to create one resort complex that will be the second largest in the Bahamas. The US$1.2 billion investment for the first phase represents the largest single investment ever in the Bahamas. (E-08.04.05)
