First casino for Da Nang

A 5-star resort with 584-room hotel, 52 shore side villas and casino has been built in the central city of Da Nang, Vietnam at a cost of around US$1.6 billion. It is the first large casino in the region and will be marketed to players from Hong Kong, China and Taiwan. The Crowne International Casino in the Silver Shores International Resort will be opened tomorrow.

Under the laws of Vietnam only foreigners and Viet Kieu (overseas Vietnamese) are allowed to play at the country’s casinos but the resort complex is aimed at the domestic market also. The resort will open in January with the first 270 hotel rooms. According to figures issued by the Da Nang Culture, Sports and Tourism Department, the city received some 1.3 million travellers in 2009 and two thirds were domestic travellers.

Da Nang is close to several tourism sites, such as the ancient capital Hue, the My Son relics and the old town of Hoi An. There are several international hotels in the city, including Accor, Hyatt and InterContinental. The Crowne International Casino will offer baccarat, blackjack, roulette, Sic bo and Caribbean Stud Poker. The resort complex is scheduled to be fully completed by July next year. (E-12.22.09)
