Europe’s longest running and well-established regulatory conference

EGB 2007 OPENS IN BRUSSELS

The European Gambling Briefing, held at the Le Meridién Brussels hotel, starts today and runs for two days. The EGB is the longest running and best established conference tackling legal and regulatory issues in the gambling industry. It is the only conference in Europe that addresses the most important gambling business issues in the context of the legal framework that exists. The opening address will be given by France’s Maurits Bruggink, Executive Director of the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities.

EGB has an outstanding reputation and has been graced with the presence of influential figures in the world of gambling. EGB 2007 is no different and has a fantastic list of speakers shaping up, including: Jean Bergevin, Head of Unit in DG MARKT, European Commission (Belgium); Dr. Peter Ketzer, Director, Grand Casino Brussels and General Representative, Casinos Austria International (Austria); and Eduardo Antoja, Director, Corporate Development, CIRSA (Spain), amongst other gaming luminaries.

The Keynote Speaker is Belgium’s Jean Bergevin and the first conference will deal with “Understanding the effect and power of EC Competition Law in the gambling industry” It has only been in recent years that the gambling industry understood that using Competition Law as a basis for opposition to monopoly was the most effective way to get the EC to take notice.

During the next two days, EGB 2007 will explore legislation across a select number of countries, as well as examining the implications for business that these regulatory and legal changes will bring. Questions will be raised about country legislation updates and implications for business in the region, especially in the face of France’s lone ranger attitude to foreign online and betting competition.

Conference on the first day will tackle the issue of “Expanding gambling operations in Europe” and, for those working late, the EGB Networking Party sponsored by Global Cash Access and hosted by Grand Casinos Austria at the Grand Casino Brussels, an elegant and sophisticated casino in the heart of the city, will be followed by “a decadent night of gorgeous food and delicious drinks in the perfect setting to unwind after the day’s proceedings.” (E-05.08.07)
