Thunderbird Resorts Inc., based in California and listed on Canada’s CNQ and Germany’s Frankfurt Exchanges, opened its second casino operation in the Philippines last month, just a few days later than first projected. The Poro Point Fiesta Casino, which is part of the Poro Point and Tourism Complex inside the 68-hectare Poro Point Special Economic and Freeport Zone (PPSEFZ), houses 100 slot machines and several gaming tables with baccarat and Pai Gow.

Thunderbird has reportedly invested 1.3 billion Philippines Pesos or around US$24.4 million in the casino and resort facility employing about 300 workers. Thunderbird, which operates 12 gaming businesses in five Latin American countries, also owns the Fiesta Casino and Resort in Rizal. The tourism complex includes a first-class restaurant, which is near the casino.

Set in a location where the visitor gets a good view of the surrounding area, as the strip of land on which it is built juts into the South China Sea, the Poro Point Casino has attracted high rollers not only from the province but also from Pangasinan, Ilocos Sur and Baguio City, as well as local executives, businessmen, officials and employees of government agencies based in this city.

On April 11, 2005 Thunderbird opened its first casino in Southeast Asia. The Fiesta Casino and Hotel in Binangonan in the province of Rizal, situated within suburban Manila in the Philippines. Unlike any casino property in the Philippines, the Fiesta Casino with 120 slot machines and 34 table games is part of a hotel, themed restaurants, and golf resort complex, with a scenic lake view that is a perfect getaway for local Filipinos as well as visiting Asian players seeking an all-round gaming and golfing experience.
