Trump Entertainment Resorts looking at opportunities to sell

FOCUS ON STRATEGIC PLAN

In a press release issued on Friday, Trump Entertainment Resorts comments on its strategic plan in response to enquiries. The company says it remains focused on operating and improving performance at all its casino hotels as well as completing the new tower at Trump Taj Mahal. According to Chairman Donald Trump the properties are no longer for sale.

Last month Mark Juliano, Chief Executive Officer of the company, described 2007 as having been a year of accomplishment and challenge for the company after reporting a fourth quarter loss of US$183.2 million. This echoed a statement a year previously that 2006 was ‘a year of many significant accomplishments.’ Following a third reorganization, in February 2007 the company said that it expected its initiatives to yield positive results. One month later the Trump casinos were offered for sale.

Initially the sale of the three Atlantic City properties was expected to attract multi-million dollar bids. However, interest has waned, which may be due to financing problems brought about by a slowing economy and credit difficulties. Atlantic City casino revenues have also been suffering from increasing competition for gambling dollars.

Despite Donald Trump’s comment that the casinos were not for sale, the Trump Entertainment Resorts press release states: “The company also looks at opportunities to sell one or more of its other properties and, from time to time, engages in discussions with third parties regarding proposals to acquire company properties. As the Company has previously stated, the Company might pursue such a transaction if presented with an offer that our board of directors determines to be in the best interests of shareholders. At this time, the company is not party to any agreement to sell any of its casino hotel properties.” (E-04.07.08)
