A judge on the Broward Circuit has ordered a forensic computer examination of Donald Trump’s company records. In a lawsuit filed by Trump against the Cordish Company, the developers of the Seminole Hard Rock casino hotels in Florida, his lawyers had previously stated that corporate emails regarding former dealings over the casino project had not been saved.
Trump contends that former business associate Richard Fields and Cordish conspired to steal his plans for the project. The defendants maintain that Trump pulled out of the deal as the former Florida Governor, Jeb Bush, was opposed to gambling. The forensic computer examiners will search for evidence that Trump abandoned the casino venture. Should Trump win his 2004 lawsuit he would be entitled to a share of the profits earned by Cordish since the Hard Rock venues opened. This would amount to hundreds of millions of dollars.
Cordish and Fields have raised doubts that Trump, with his Atlantic City casinos in bankruptcy proceedings at the time of the deal, would have had the finance or expertise to finalise a contract with the Seminole Tribe. Earlier in the trial, after the defence team had waited months before being told there was no record of emails, a judge said that there must be ‘an attitude adjustment from the plaintiff.’ (E-06.27.07)
