President of UNI Gaming Sector creates Internet site

GLOBAL DISCUSSION FORUM

Fresh from a confrontation with a casino group in Argentina, Daniel Amoroso, President of the Union Network International (UNI) and General Secretary of the Argentinean Union of Gaming, Entertainment and Recreation Employees (ALEARA), has created an electronic forum where workers and union leaders in the global gaming industry can communicate to discuss problems and make their points of view known.

Daniel Amoroso says of his new project, “As we always say, the globalisation of the economy calls for the globalisation of the union movement; this will strengthen unions worldwide by linking fellow workers from different countries so as to jointly stand up to harmful policies and to that end, it is essential to use the tools globalisation provides us with.” He goes on to say, “Communication and information have become the main capital our age has offered us. Therefore, as workers, we cannot turn a blind eye to this reality because, if we do not create a space where to make our opinions heard, nobody will.”

UNI was formed as an international trade union in January 2000 and has 15.5 million members from over 140 countries. It brings together about 900 unions in the world’s largest grouping and was created in response to the huge changes brought by the impact of technology on the global economy. ALEARA was originally founded in April 1946 and the association works to defend the interests of Argentinean gaming employees and ensure they are given the social security and working conditions they should have.

The new website has been designed for ease of use and allows for personal opinions to be voiced about different subjects. Emails can be sent to other participants and areas of interest proposed for discussion. The forum can be found at www.unigamingforum.org and is exclusively devoted to the worldwide gaming sector.
