Best month so far of fiscal year

Foxwoods reports May results

Casino operators in the US have been described as being cautiously optimistic about business although some analysts are less sure about a pick up in casino revenue anytime soon. Today Foxwoods Resort Casino and MGM Grand at Foxwoods in Connecticut have reported the best monthly results of the fiscal year. Compared to May 2008, the month in which MGM Grand held its gala opening, figures were down 14.2% in slots win and down 9.6% in total slots handle but gaming revenue rose to US$62.2 million.

“Although our numbers are down from last May, we are pleased that May 2009 was our strongest month of this fiscal year,” said Michael Speller, President of Mashantucket Pequot Gaming Enterprises (MPGE). “Particularly because this month marked a tremendous milestone for our property, the one year anniversary of the opening of MGM Grand at Foxwoods.”

Since its opening more than four million guests have flocked to the award-winning MGM Grand at Foxwoods to enjoy the vast array of entertainment, dining, and leisure options. Its vibrant 50,000-square-foot casino impressed with more than 1,300 slot machines and 60 table games, while 825 beautifully-appointed rooms provided unparalleled accommodations and amenities. The 4,000-seat MGM Grand Theater hosted a stunning line-up of talent over the course of the year.

Adding to the appeal of Foxwoods Resort Casino and MGM Grand at Foxwoods this summer is their star-studded entertainment line-up, with a sizzling array of spectacles in store, from exclusive concerts to world-renowned exhibitions, and everything in between. The property will also host several exciting events for the foodie set, including: The Foxwoods Food & Wine Festival (August 28-30), featuring more than 40 celebrated chefs from award-winning restaurants, and the Phantom Gourmet Summer Beach BBQ Party (June 19 – 21), which will feature food from some of the world’s best barbeque teams.
