For the fifth year running the Global Gaming Expo has opened its door to thousands of visitors impatient to see as many as possible of the over 700 companies exhibiting their products and services. G2E is the ‘must go’ date on the gaming industry calendar, and maybe this year more so than ever. Apart from being the 5th anniversary of the expo, 2005 marks the 10th anniversary of the American Gaming Association (AGA) and, perhaps most important of all, the centenary of Las Vegas itself - ample reasons not to miss the 2005 edition of the ‘greatest show on earth’; for the gaming industry, anyway.
The ribbon cutting ceremony was conducted just before mid-day to the familiar strains of ‘Happy Birthday’ made famous by Marilyn Monroe. Even before the ribbon was cut, G2E was already up and running with conferences, workshops and seminars. The G2E Signature Series presented the president and CEO of the AGA, Frank Fahrenkopf Jr, and a panel of experts in a conference on the importance of non-gaming activities to casino business. The final consensus was that by square foot of use revenue from restaurants, retail outlets and shows are more profitable than gambling revenue at some Strip casinos.
The Las Vegas Convention Center is full of firms from around the world, many making their first appearance at the expo. ACE NET ASCOT, fresh from winning best stand at the Peru Gaming Show in Lima, is exhibiting its exciting horse racing game to the larger audience in Las Vegas. All the innovations imaginable for gaming products and services are on view, from F&B to décor to i-gaming. Over the next couple of days there will have been a great deal of business conducted, a great deal of floor area covered and a great deal of partying accomplished. It could be said that G2E is a great deal for exhibitors and visitors alike! (E-09.14.05)
