Cheung Capital Management aims at Australian investors

Global Gaming Opportunities Fund launched

The Sydney based hedge fund firm Cheung Capital Management is to launch its first ever investment fund and has chosen the global gaming industry as its vehicle. The ‘Global Gaming Opportunities Fund’ will be marketed to Australian investors. The gaming sector is often ignored by investment fund managers despite having a market capitalization of over US$100 billion.

Portfolio Manager at Cheung Capital Management, Timothy Cheung, says; “The global gaming industry includes casinos, poker machine manufacturers, lotteries and bookmakers.” He adds, “In spite of its size, many traditional fund managers and brokerage houses still shy away from the sector. This presents an opportunity for the fund to generate strong returns for its clients through the application of bespoke research.”

One market that will be a natural focus for the fund will be Macau, with its booming gaming economy. Cheung comments that the increase in the Asian middle classes is accelerating the growth of the gaming industry in the region. According to Cheung, “In spite of the global financial crisis, casino revenues in Macau have grown every year since it welcomed overseas operators in 2004.” (E-04.20.10)
