In Buenos Aires last week Gaming Laboratories International celebrated 10 years of serving the Latin American gaming market. To mark the occasion GLI was present at both the SAGSE and MAGIA trade shows. Additionally, GLI noted the first anniversary of GLI South America, an unprecedented partnership
between GLI and the Universidad Nacional de La Plata in Buenos Aires.
GLI Manager Latin American/Spain Development, and Panama native, Karen Sierra-Hughes said, “GLI has a long history in Latin America, and we have been working directly with regulators for more than 10 years. GLI’s participation in shows like SAGSE and MAGIA are always excellent opportunities to meet with the region’s regulators and manufacturers, both those whom we have known and worked with for 10 years, and new regulators who have been referred to GLI based on our strong reputation in Latin America.”
Since being accredited as the first independent certification laboratory in Peru more than 10 years ago, GLI has concentrated its efforts to serving clients in the region. GLI currently works with regulators and government agencies in Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Panama and Peru. GLI also services numerous countries in the Caribbean.
Recently GLI hosted nearly 30 regulators from across Canada for a Canadian Regulators Roundtable. The event was held earlier this month in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and included a mix of speakers from the industry and from GLI. Michael Wojciechowski, Technical Compliance Officer Research and Development from Aristocrat discussed emerging technologies; IGT Director of Regulatory Development Daniel McCoy presented server-based gaming; and Kimberly Stein, V.P and Corporate General Counsel from Sona Mobile discussed mobile gaming, including cell phone and hand-held devices.
GLI gave three seminars: the first on ‘gray’ amusement/skill games, the second on compliance issues, and a third on electronic pull-tabs. GLI Development Representative and Training Coordinator Mike Capen said, “Our clients tell us that our roundtable series is extremely important to them. We held our annual North American Roundtable earlier this year, and there were Canadian regulators who were not able to attend. So we staged this event to give them a chance to hear the information, and to get the very latest information available.”
Next up for GLI is the Global Gaming Expo this November, where GLI team members will appear on five panels. GLI’s 8th annual North American Regulators Roundtable is slated for March 2009 in Las Vegas. GLI operates nine fully accredited testing laboratories worldwide, in addition to fully accredited inspection bodies in America, Europe and Africa. (E-10.21.08)
