Conference for Regulators in Dar es Salaam

GAMING DEVELOPMENT IN AFRICA

On Sunday 28 November the Conference of Gaming Regulators Africa Forum (Graf) opened in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. Taking part are 72 delegates from countries such as South Africa, Botswana, Cameroon, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

In the opening session the delegates were told that Africa's gaming industry, which includes lotteries and casinos, is growing fast with new technologies and large-scale investment. The Tanzanian Finance Minister, Basil Mramba, added that countries in Africa should enhance their regulations and controls in order to prevent criminals infiltrating the system and using casinos to launder money.

The Chairman of Graf, Khuze Kapeta from Malawi, informed the conference that the organization was working to keep gaming crime-free, to protect consumers, and to contribute to the economic development of member countries. The Chairman also urged Regulators to make their regulations easy to understand and legally fair, in order to protect investors and their investments.
