A summit for gaming industry manufacturers, testing labs and operators from around the world has helped to decide the future of downloadable games. Gaming Standards Association (GSA) members and non-members gathered at the exceptionally well-attended session to discuss possible solutions to the challenges facing regulators, operators and manufacturers.
The open forum was called in order to listen to ideas that would enable GSA’s BOB committee to create workable solutions for the downloadable games, seen as the future of the gaming industry. The new BOB standard will address the regulatory and operator issues surrounding downloading games and give operators flexibility in the management of the casino floor to automatically configure and change games in ways to suit the casino clientele.
At the summit the requirements of game download and the merits of different methods were presented and debated. GSA member companies Gtech, MultiMedia Games and Progressive Gaming together with non-member IGT and Cyberview offered possible solutions. A consensus was reached on the direction and definition of the architecture and control message set and is now being developed.
The end result of the summit will be a download component in GSA’s BOB protocol standard. The first draft of a proposal should be finished in time for September’s G2E exhibition in Las Vegas. Once the proposal is finalized and approved by GSA members, the new standard will be available free from the organization’s website, along with all GSA standards. (E-06.07.05)
