Almost a century ago the Lima Golf Club was on the outskirts of the city by the Pacific Ocean. It is now in the middle of more recent urban development and facing it is the elegant Los Delfines Hotel & Casino, with the gigantic pool inside that is home to a couple of very special dolphins. Slovenian company Hit acquired the casino, its first South American property, and is operating under its Eurocasinos flag. Upgrading the casino has now been completed.
Both Boris Tomasic and Aleksander Mosir, Hit’s executives, were present at the opening of the casino’s expansion that has doubled its video games offer, taking the total to 294 machines. The casino on two levels includes an interior escalator to take players to the table games area where 19 games include poker, blackjack, roulette, midi baccarat and craps.
Renzo Salas, business manager for the company said: “We are in our Anniversary month and have just added 108 brand new video games, which are the very latest products from the world’s leading manufacturers, making our players very, very happy. We employ 180 people, and the company has come to Peru to invest in the casino industry. Eurocasinos has also acquired the old Vilanova casino in Miraflores, and have relaunched it under the name Palacio Royale.”
The Vilanova is an incredible architectural hybrid in Miraflores, San Isidro’s residential neighbour by the Pacific. In the 1950s the Vilanova was built as a palazzio in a mixture of Baroque and Art Nouveau styles, but was hardly lived in and was renovated over five years as a high class restaurant. Ladbrokes saw its potential and turned the property into the high roller Vilanova Casino in 1995, afterwards acquired by Dakota Gaming when the British operators left the country, and has now become the Palacio Royale.
Times are sure to be good for Eurocasinos, as Peruvian legislation has been approved to stop illegal gambling from spreading in the country. At the beginning of the week, penal legislation in the country was amended to put imprison operators trafficking with gaming judicial mandates, which has seen the unrestricted opening of slots parlours in the country. Hit’s Peru venture will benefit from the new legislation that enables casinos to operate only in Gaming Commission authorized properties. (E-04.28.06)
