Council awards large casino licence to Apollo Resorts & Leisure

Go-ahead for Manor Mill Resort in Hull

This week Hull City Council declared its large casino process closed and granted the Provisional Statement to the sole applicant for the licence, Apollo Resorts and Leisure Limited. Apollo is actively pursuing leisure, entertainment and gaming opportunities across the UK, primarily focused on the licences awarded by the 2005 Gambling Act. The Council decision means that progress can be made on the riverside casino, hotel and housing complex plans.

Apollo hopes that work on the £100m mixed-use scheme at the former Clarence Mill site will commence before the end of the year. The licence granted by Hull City Council for the so-called large casino, authorised by the 2005 Act, is provisional and subject to final approval once the casino is built. The riverside complex, on the east bank of the River Hull, already has planning permission for a 185-room hotel and a 23-storey residential building, which will be Hull’s tallest when finished. Student accommodation is included in the development plan.

Philip Akrill of Manor Property Group said: “This is excellent news and we are delighted to be able to move this development forward; it will breathe new life into this derelict site and kick start the stalled regeneration of the east bank of the river Hull, creating a first class leisure destination in the city centre.”

Mike Nuttall, managing director of Apollo Resorts and Leisure Ltd. said: "Apollo is pleased to have been awarded the provisional statement, and after many years of work are committed to delivering Manor Mill resort as a major new leisure and entertainment destination.” He added, “We are very excited to be part of this scheme and to help deliver a significant number of local job, training and supply chain opportunities. We look forward to working with the community for many years to come and attracting lots of new tourists to Hull.” (E-02.10.11)
