Some projects are born out of a market need and some projects out of a hunger or a passion for the product or subject matter. In our case we must confess that although our project was a mixture of both, the latter had prevalence. With a great number of years in the industry, Ricki Chavez-Munoz, our publisher, was starting as a dealer in a London casino just four years into the enactment of the 1968 British Gaming Act.
Although Monte Carlo, Macau, Las Vegas and some casinos in the Bahamas are a synthesis of the early industry operations, it may be said that from the early 70s the London casinos set the pace of modern gaming for the rest of the world. Both the Spanish legislation and the Atlantic City legislation had a great many gaming constraints for the protection of the public, as enforced by the UK’s 1968 Gaming Act.
As gaming developed far and wide, not only were British operators some of the first in Atlantic City at the beginning of the 80s, but they were also in Spain a few years before. From Australia to South Africa, the early message of gaming responsibility was spread, as operators understood the basic concept that over-exposing and hurting a client financially was counter productive.
Responsible Gaming has the support of industry world leaders, and International Game Technology (IGT) is right up amongst the top casino companies. We enter our fourth year of CasinoCompendium with a firm commitment to support the industry on a responsible basis, which means that as part of B2B media we must continue to resist online casino advertising proposals.
Chavez-Munoz said: “As publishers, our principal aim is to support the industry and its development. While we do support the concept of online casinos, we will not be a medium to market its products. Our job is to communicate industry matters, comment on gaming issues and support gaming in its legal and regulated form worldwide”.
We are happy to announce that from today IGT has decided to take up a prominent position amongst our business supporters. Our collective operations experience with IGT goes back to the mid-80s and, whether operating reels, pokers or videogames, the American leader has always been superb for both product quality and service. Our aim is to excel along similar lines. (E-10.01.07)
