Top European gaming Group Société des Bains de Mer (SBM) was recently at IGT’s European headquarters in Amsterdam for intensive talks and discussions that have determined that 60% of the slot inventory for the new casino at the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort will be provided by IGT, and that the EZ PAY system will be available for customers on all the machines in the casino. IGT’s latest video slot releases will make up most of the order with some spinning reel and Reel Touch machines with games such as Denver Duck and Flip Flop Deluxe.
SBM has had mixed fortunes since its inception in Monaco, where the casino benefited from gambling being illegal in France between 1836 and 1933. The business did not prosper until Rothschild money made possible the building of hotels and a new casino that opened in 1864. By 1949 SBM was registering serious losses in its casino, hotel and tourist attraction business, and in the 1950s Aristotle Onassis became a major investor in the company. In 1964 the Grimaldis regained control, and the rest is history.
The newest SBM operation is scheduled for an October 1 opening of the 4-star resort hotel with 334 hi-tech rooms, 10 meeting rooms, casino, discotheque, restaurants and lagoon. The SBM Project Manager and team visiting Amsterdam have extensive knowledge of gaming systems, and in evaluating the EZ PAY system were impressed by the number of options available and were of the opinion that the operator-friendly features would make for an easy transition for their employees.
