After the New York Lottery completed a six-month review process, it awarded a contract to IGT for an additional 217 video lottery terminals. The Rhode Island Lottery has also requested an extra 80 terminals for Lincoln Park and 20 for Newport Grand, based on their evaluation performance. The terminals to be installed in New York are 66 at Saratoga Gaming & Raceway, 49 at Finger Lakes Gaming % Racetrack, 50 at Fairground Gaming & Raceway and 52 at Mighty M Gaming at Monticello Raceway.

IGT has been a leader in the introduction of video lottery terminals (VLTs), turning racetracks into racinos. VLT gaming brings new customers to established pari-mutuel and off-track betting venues, generating additional revenues to support racing operations that have previously been declining. In Iowa and Delaware it could be said that the VLT terminals have saved a threatened industry.

Apart from racetrack locations, IGT also supplies bars, clubs and other local venues with VLTs in states where it is legal to do so. These include Louisiana, New Mexico, Oregon, South Dakota and West Virginia. Further afield there is a large market in Canada, and a recent agreement with CIE in Mexico will see IGT lease terminals to the ‘Yaks,’ electronic gaming venues, for an estimated US$33 million.(E-10.14.05)
