Held last week in Dublin, Ireland’s Coin-Op Expo-AmEx 2007 provided an upbeat atmosphere with an increase in both exhibitors and visitors. A greater variety of products was on view and additional visitors came from new entrants to the traditional gaming and amusement market. The only slight contretemps arose when the bar at the Lynch Green Isle Hotel ran out of Guinness for a while on Tuesday night!
The Irish gaming and amusement sector has recently been revitalised in anticipation of new regulations for casinos and AWPs. The Civil Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill currently at the Committee Stage in the Dáil includes provisions designed to increase the legal limits on stake and prize money in gaming machines. The Casino Committee has now presented its report to the Minister for Justice and is awaiting instructions to prepare legislation for Ireland’s casino sector. There is also a possibility that the same committee may examine arcade gaming and other aspects of the gaming and betting business.
In addition to the exhibition there was a programme of seminars, meetings, business presentations and social gatherings, continuing the show's reputation for bringing together Irish and international manufacturers, distributors and operators in a businesslike atmosphere. AmEx also continued its role of fostering exhibitor to exhibitor sales. The number of international visitors and exhibitors has increased considerably in recent
years, to include companies from Britain, USA, Spain, Germany, Austria, France, Russia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Belgium, Japan, Italy,
Poland and Slovenia. (E-03.14.07)
