The new Lisbon Casino will open its doors on 19 April on the site of the former Future Pavilion at the Nations Park, approximately two months later than planned. A major shareholder of the Sociedad Estoril Sol is the gambling magnate Stanley Ho and the new casino is a new addition to the Estoril Sol casino estate in Portugal. The company already has the casino at Povoa do Varzim and Europe’s largest casino at Estoril.
The Casino de Lisboa will open at approximately 50% capacity with 800 slot machines and 22 gaming tables. In the future it is expected that slot machine numbers will rise to 1,500. Annual revenue should be around US$120 million for the first year of operation, rising to US$180 million after five years. Half the revenue will revert to the Lisbon City Council and the Portuguese State, as required under gambling legislation. (E-01.30.06)
