Keynote on real situation with gambling business in Russia and Ukraine

Lyubov Loginova at Russian Gaming Week 2010

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Alsart Group Lyubov Loginova will deliver a keynote speech opening the conference Russian Gaming Week 2010 on June 15, 2010 in Moscow, Russia, titled: "Gambling and the lottery business in the CIS 2010: realities, perspectives and alternatives".

"Although the casinos disappeared in Russia and in Ukraine a year ago, the gambling markets there still exist. By my estimate that volume is not less than that it was in 2008," says Lyubov Loginova, "the market has just transformed, taken others forms but left the same gambling content."

It's not a secret that after the closure of gambling establishments in 2009 in Russia, gambling began to appear at pseudo-lottery halls with slot machines disguised as lottery terminals, at Internet clubs with direct access to online casinos, and at simply illegal gambling halls. The same situation exists in Ukraine after the ban of gambling there.

The authorities fight with such establishments, but are unsuccessful. Shadow gambling business in the countries is growing to the backdrop of widespread corruption, the reluctance of some operators to abandon their usual source of income and the indifference of most of the former casino visitors to the legality of the institution at which they play.

However in difficult conditions for conducting honest businesses, last year new forms of work appeared, corresponding to the current legislation. Today the Alsart Group is one of the few commercial structures that survived the gambling industry crisis in the CIS countries, rebuilt their business and are actively developing one in the new reality.

Loginova concluded: “I hope that a frank conversation about what's happening in the industry, what decisions are "working" in the market and what to expect in the near future will be held at the RGW 2010. For my part, I am ready for such constructive dialogue.” (E-06.01.10)
