Casinos Barrière have for some months been encouraging their clients to progressively adopt a non-smoking attitude. A tough new anti-tobacco law comes into force throughout France on 1 January 2008 and, following an extensive information campaign, Lucien Barrière Hotels et Casinos has confirmed its involvement in the transition to a non-smoking environment with its association with OFT (the French office for the prevention of tobacco addiction).
At three of its casinos – Bordeaux, Deauville and Enghien-les-bains - the Barrière Group proposed the ‘Great Test’ to stop smoking. Last Friday OFT officials were present at the three establishments to make an informal tobacco test: carbon monoxide pollution, tobacco dependence, motivation to stop smoking… At Bordeaux, Deauville and Enghien-les-bains the new phase of a no smoking plan has been put in place, suggesting to clients how to stop smoking.
Since 1999 OFT has adopted a mission of public interest together with others in the fight against nicotine addiction. Recognised for its actions within businesses, OFT is the prime organisation for helping smokers quit the habit with effective prevention methods and awareness campaigns.
Conscientious of the constraints the new legislation imposes on their clients, and in order to ensure that the pleasure of gaming remains intact, Casinos Barrière is doing all they can by making certain areas available for patrons to smoke without leaving the casino: converted terraces, and from 1 January sixty smoking cabins with extractor fans installed in the Group’s 32 casinos.
In the tradition of pleasure and welcome that characterises them, Casinos Barrière break new ground to optimise the well-being of all their patrons, including a new clientele of non-smokers. For all those who wish, the Casino Barriere lollipops remain available at all the Group’s casinos. (E-12.17.07)
