First local final of Majestic Poker Tour

WINNER GETS WSOP PLACE

Rory Mchugh, an Irishman living in Panamá, has become the first champion of the Majestic Poker Tour. As winner of the local final at the Majestic Casino in the Dominican Republic, he has been awarded entry into the World Series of Poker (WSOP) final in Las Vegas. He has also pocketed US$68,000 and a gold and diamond champion WSOP Satellite ring. Majestic Poker Tour competitions will also be held at Cirsa’s Majestic Casinos in Lima, Panamá City, and Venezuela’s Isla Margarita.

72 players started the battled to win the Santo Domingo tournament final, most qualifying for a second marathon day. The contestants came from around the region: 39 Dominicans, 10 Venezuelans, 10 from the USA, 4 from Costa Rica, 4 from Puerto Rico, 3 from Panamá and 2 Peruvians. Only two players were women, neither of whom made the top ten. Arturo Morales from Costa Rica came in second, winning US$25,000 and a place in the Venezuelan final. Third was Dominican Graisbel Lora who goes to the Lima final and takes home US$15,000.

Cash prizes were won by all ten players at the final table and Willie Wong, who came fourth, won US$10,000 and a place in the Panamá final. The final table was led by Karlo López with 242,000 in chips, more than double his nearest rival with 110,000, but in the event he finished sixth. A total of US$161,000 was given out as prizes. The next local Majestic Poker Tour final will be held from 24-26 March at the Gran Casino Isla Margarita off the Caribbean coast of Venezuela. (E-03.01.06)
