McMullan’s Irish Pub celebrates in Las Vegas

LA FHEILE PADRAIG SHONA DHUIT

The Wild Rose Casino in northwest Iowa may have missed the boat with its authentic Irish pub, scheduling an opening for late May, but in Las Vegas McMullan’s Irish Pub has long been a firm favourite with locals and visitors alike. Great atmosphere, great food and a year-round flavour of Ireland, together with a chance to try your luck gaming, comes today and every day with the warmest Irish greeting “Cead Mile Failte” – a hundred thousand welcomes.

In New York St Patrick is the patron saint and March 17 is a feast day, allowing guilt-free consumption of traditional corned beef and cabbage during Lent. That dish is just one of the excellent ‘Family Secret’ recipes at McMullan’s, along with Diddy’s Irish stew and Grandma Mac’s Shepherd’s Pie; not to mention the traditional Farmhouse Irish Breakfast and more. McMullan’s, Purveyors of the Perfect Pint, is a must on the agenda of annual visitors to G2E from as far afield as South East Asia and South America. It also offers a Black & White Graveyard Special for casino employees.

Celtic rock at its best will be raising the roof with the Finnegans Wake band this St Patrick’s day, and bagpipers will add to the celebrations from mid-day. Live music and those ‘perfect pints’ will be on tap inside the pub and outside on the patio. The gaming Happy Hour kicks in as usual between 5-6pm on week days. The origin of the phrase Luck of the Irish seems to have been lost in the Gaelic mists of time, but may be simply a way of wishing good luck. With non-stop gaming promotions, players at McMullan’s have every chance of experiencing some Luck of the Irish.

The St Patrick’s Day parades and parties will roll wherever there is an Irish community around the world, and some where there isn’t. In America March 17 is celebrated with a vigour that many national saints’ days must envy. The big Las Vegas casinos may be ‘putting on the green’ but the warmest welcome will be at 4650 W. Tropicana – McMullan’s Irish Pub. You may even see a leprechaun. Slainte! (E-03.17.06)
