The Dominican Republic is staking its claim to becoming an ideal Caribbean vacation spot. Several new luxury resorts and 21 golf courses, including Nicklaus and Palmer designer courses, have been developed and the country’s economy is growing at around 10% per year. Large tracts of undeveloped land give the Dominican Republic an advantage over smaller Caribbean neighbours.
In one month, on 15 July, the Moon Palace Casino will open in the Dominican Republic with 500 gaming machines, 40 gaming tables, a poker room, Sports Book and VIP salon. Located in the extreme southeast of the country at Punta Cana, the casino is in the majestic Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort with one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. The resort has nine new open-air pools and great views of the sea and the tranquil lagoon.
In May the Caribbean Casino and Gaming Corporation announced that its luxury Sosua Bay Grand Casino would open 1 August 2009. President and CEO Steven Swank commented, "It goes without saying this is a very exciting time for CGAQ. We have constructed what I believe will be one of the nicest casinos in the Caribbean. The grand ball room will host international superstars for your entertainment.” (E-06.15.09)
