Greek Mythology scores in Hong Kong

GROUP SECURES FERRY RIGHTS

They may be out for a duck in Singapore but Greek Mythology (Macau) Entertainment Group will be taking over the rights to renovate and upgrade a cross-boundary ferry service into Macau. Last week the Singapore government dismissed the company's Request for Concept bid, saying that its plan failed to meet the criteria for an Integrated Resort; this week the Hong Kong government has approved the Greek Mythology plan for the ferry terminal.

The ferry service between Tuen Mun and Macau was supposed to have commenced last December under Hong Kong North West Express, a start-up company chosen by the Hong Kong Government two years ago. Greek Mythology acquired the franchise by a buy-out of North West Express shareholders. The ferry service will take Mainland Chinese gamblers to Macau and will compete with the hydrofoil service from Hong Kong Island and another service between Tsim Sha Tsui and Macau, both government operated.

The prospective ferry service is expected be ready to operate at the end of the year when work on the terminal finishes. Journey time should be half that of the other two services, thereby costing less to operate and cheaper fares. The North West Express franchise runs for seven years and Greek Mythology has plans to provide additional services to ports in mainland China.

Detailed information on drainage work outstanding must be submitted to the Hong Kong government and the project will be closely monitored. Hong Kong North West Express remains the tenant of the ferry terminal notwithstanding the recent changes in the shareholding structure and management of the company. (E-04.28.05)
