A larger exhibition for betting professionals offers free seminars

THE BETTING SHOW OPENS AT THE NEC

The Betting Show opens today and tomorrow at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham. This year it has moved into the larger Hall 9, with new exhibitors and more visitors expected. Billed as Europe’s only exhibition dedicated to the betting industry, the show attracts all those involved in the field of betting – on and off course as well as remote betting and gaming.

There will be new products for the market on show and many free seminars. Amongst issues to be covered at the seminars are: Licensing Conditions and Codes of Practice; Impact of TurfTV on the bookmaker; and Latest on the Levy. The sessions commence this morning with ‘The New Era of the Gambling Legislation’ with speakers Beryl Brown, Director of Policy & Communications at the Gambling Commission and Russ Phillips, Deputy Chief Executive of the Association of British Bookmakers.

Sponsored by SIS, an evening of relaxation and networking has been arranged at the new The Isle Casino in nearby Coventry. SIS also sponsors The Racing Lounge on the show floor where business can be conducted in a relaxed manner. The Gambling Commission has a stand at the exhibition where they are happy to answer questions and listen to concerns. They will also offer practical guidance to licensed operators on how to stay within the new rules.

Over the last three years word has spread far and wide and the show’s international visitor list has grown considerably. Last year visitors from beyond the EU came from Australia, South Africa, N. America, Russia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Mexico, to name just some. Overseas visitors made up over 18% of the total number of people who attended the show in 2006, a sure sign of the growing international importance and influence The Betting Show is having on the industry.
