4 projects for Uruguay’s international casino tender

Grupo Orenes looks towards South America

Last September Spanish company Grupo Orenes took part, together with the Uruguayan businessman Victor Mesa, in the international public tender called in Uruguay for the incorporation of new casinos. The company has prepared up to 4 projects, one for each of the chosen places: Chuy, Rio Branco, Aceguá and Bella Unión. The common feature of the locations is their proximity to the border of Brazil.

Chuy's casino will house 12 table games and 90 slot machines, including the VIP lounge as well as a 4-star hotel with 24 rooms, restaurant, spa and fitness centre and a convention and event room. The complex will also have a “duty free” shop.

Casino Rio Branco will house 8 table games and 70 slot machines (including the VIP lounge) as well as a 4-star hotel with 26 rooms, restaurant and convention & meeting rooms. Focusing on health and beauty, the complex will be offering a spa as well as a fitness centre. Casinos in Aceguá and Bella Unión will house 5 game tables and 60 slot machines at each venue, restaurants (inside and outside the casino) as well as a “duty free” shop.

By the start of 2010, should the licences have been confirmed, the aforementioned casinos would become part of the mixed exploitation system (co-owned by state and private enterprise) currently in force in Uruguay. Through these projects, Grupo Orenes commits itself towards a diversification of its business in the South American market.

Grupo Orenes is one of the leading companies in the gaming and leisure sector in Spain, thanks to its strong competitive position in its four strategic current activities: arcades, casinos, bingo halls and commercial. In this manner, it maintains an important presence in the arcade sector in Spain, especially in the South East of the country, the Canary Islands and Balearic Islands. It has 7 casinos throughout Spain, making it one of the principal operators in this type of business, having a consolidated position in the bingo sector and an active structure in the commerce of recreational machines.
