This week Casinos Austria International (CAI) announced that it has been awarded the concession for the new casino in the central Chilean town of Ovalle. The announcement followed the decision by the country's gaming board (SCJ) on the operators for Chile's final three casinos. After the successful opening in July of this year, the new casino in Ovalle will be CAI's second casino in Chile and will open in late 2009/early 2010. In addition to a spacious gaming floor with 8 tables and 180 slot machines, plans for the new complex include a 4-star hotel with 40 rooms, a top-class restaurant and state-of-the-art conference facilities. Total investment in the project will be approximately US$ 18 million.
"We are delighted to have been awarded the concession for the new casino in Ovalle," said Paul Herzfeld, CEO of Casinos Austria International. "Chile has one of the most stable and prosperous economies in South America, and we are looking forward to building on our experience in Los Angeles in this exciting new project."
Ovalle is an important agricultural centre some 500 km north of Santiago in Chile's Region IV and is the capital of Limari Province. CAI’s integrity, know-how and extensive experience as an international casino operator were key factors in the selection of the Austrian bid. As of August 2008, CAI and its parent company, Casinos Austria AG, operated 79 casinos in 18 countries and on board 13 cruise liners, including 6 casinos in South America. (E-08.14.08)
