Pennsylvania slots casino revenue increases nearly 13% in December

No vote yet on Category 3 licence

Today the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board issued a statement saying that the final Category 3 Resort Licence will not be on the agenda for its meeting on Thursday and no vote will be taken on the matter. Four companies submitted applications for the licence and their local impact and diversity reports were published on the Board’s web site in order to help citizens better understand each proposal and strengthen their presentations at the public input hearings.

“A vote on the Category 3 license will not be on Thursday's meeting agenda," said PGCB spokesperson Doug Harbach. "At the same time, the Board members continue to evaluate the proposals, reviewing and weighing the substantial evidence received from the Category 3 applicants along with public testimony in an attempt to achieve the qualified majority vote that is required to license one of these projects."

The PGCB also published today the amount of gross revenue generated in December 2010 through the play of slot machines at Commonwealth casinos. According to the figures released, gross revenue was up 12.72% over the previous year. The slot machines at the ten operating casinos produced US$174,772,637 and tax collected averaged US$3.08 million per day. Parx Casino headed the revenue table at US$28,706,384, up 8.86% on December 2009.

“2010 was another good year of solid growth in slot revenue,” said PGCB Executive Director Kevin O’Toole. “For the fourth year in a row Pennsylvania saw an increase in revenue from legalized casino gaming and, with the popularity of tables games, tax revenue should continue to grow throughout 2011.” (E-01.04.11)
