Poker Channel to launch in Argentina and South Africa

The Poker Channel, Europe’s largest gaming TV network, has announced the launch of the Poker Channel in Argentina and South Africa. The Poker Channel will be the first TV channel dedicated to poker in Argentina, and will broadcast to approximately 1 million TV subscribers for 6 hours a day in the Spanish language from 8pm.

The Poker Channel will be available from 7 June to subscribers of Cablevision (channel 414), Telered (channel 81 analogue, channel 116 digital) and Supercanal (channel 80) and other regional operators. Programming highlights in Argentina will include local and international tournaments, as well as interviews with top players in the region, tutorial shows and coverage of major events such as the World Series of Poker.

Chris White, Managing Director, said: “This is our first step into Latin America and Africa and a huge milestone for us and our partners. It shows the desire to play and watch poker continues to grow around the world. We’re working with the best local TV companies and poker rooms in the region - to televise top tournaments, help viewers improve their game, and choose where to play.”

In South Africa, the Poker Channel will broadcast on DSTV (channel 112) from 12am to approximately 2 million subscribers from 7 June, bringing many European and American tournaments to a South African TV audience for the first time. Poker Channel recently announced it is launching a dedicated French-language channel this year, and expanding to another 3 markets in Europe, including Latvia, Monaco and Austria. (E-05.24.10)
