SKYCITY hosts adventurous tournament at Queenstown

Extreme sports and poker in New Zealand

SKYCITY Queenstown Casino will play host to more than 70 international players from the four corners of the globe alongside home-grown players as part of a capped field of 200 people for one of the most adventurous poker tournaments to date. From 20-25 July, New Zealand’s adventure capital, Queenstown, will be filled with top poker players from throughout Australasia and the world including international players from Canada, Germany, Israel, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, United Kingdom and the United States of America.

With the field capped at 200 players, competition will be fierce. Players will have to pull out all the stops to take away a slice of the expected $450,000NZD (US$282,575) No Limit Texas Hold’em poker prize pool. Some registered players and supporters have taken advantage of the extreme sports and activities on offer in Queenstown – skiing and bungy jumping to name but two.

SKYCITY Queenstown’s Executive Manager Michelle Baillie says, “With SKYCITY Queenstown hosting such a world class tournament in one of New Zealand’s best tourist destinations, the added tourist options and accommodation over the week will increase the economic benefit that these players, their friends and family will have on the region.” (E-07.10.09)
