The 4th Regulators Roundtable/Users Conference organized by Gaming Laboratories International (GLI) at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas closed yesterday. Technology took centre stage at the event, where 128 regulators from 50 jurisdictions were the largest number ever to attend the roundtable, and far exceeded GLI’s expectations. Regulators came from across the U.S. and Canada and from as far away as Argentina and Curacao, representing a mix of tribal, state and lottery commissions.
GLI’s Vice President and Co-founder Paul Magno said, “We had anticipated about 80 regulators to attend, and we hosted 128. What that says to us is that regulators are looking to GLI’s technological expertise to help them prepare for tomorrow’s technology.” Craig Sparrow of the South Dakota Commission on Gaming, who was attending his fourth GLI Regulator Roundtable, said, “G2E is so sales-pitch oriented that this conference is the first opportunity we have to learn the technology behind the new products.”
Topics discussed included integration of technical compliance with quality assurance and the testing process; adoption of technical standards; and field inspections, including verification tools and manual. A session dedicated to technology covered protocols currently under development, electronic pull-tab games, mechanical-based RNG games, testing of kiosks, the concept of server-based gaming and wireless technology.
Morris Choma of the Manitoba Gaming Control Commission was attending his third GLI Regulator Roundtable and remarked about part of GLI’s presentation: “I was looking for a better way to verify player tracking systems, and now I am aware that GLI offers field tests.”
A mix of GLI staff and guest speakers presented at the conference. Speaking for GLI were James R. Maida, President and Co-founder; Patrick Moore, Technical Compliance Manager; Todd Elsasser, Executive Director Engineering; and Sean Mason, Compliance Engineer. Guest speakers were Peter DeRaeadt, President, Gaming Standards Association; Clarence Greeno, Gaming Enforcement Manager, Missouri State Gaming Commission; and Greg Kobe, President, Kobetron, Inc.
