PA Gaming Control Board to hold public hearings

Three casinos seek licence renewal

Yesterday the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) announced it had fined Presque Isle Downs, Inc, operator of Presque Isle Downs and Casino in Erie County, $52,000 for three instances of permitting underage persons onto the gaming floor and for permitting a patron on the Self-Excluded List to play slot machines and collect a jackpot. Additionally, Greenwood Gaming & Entertainment, Inc., operator of Parx Casino in Bucks County, received a fine of $20,000 for removing slot machines without the proper authorization by the Gaming Control Board.

Today the PGCB has announced May hearings for three western Pennsylvania casinos to gather evidence, including public comment, on the renewal of their slot machine operators’ licenses. Pursuant to section 1326 of the Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act, all licenses shall be subject to renewal. The renewal application must include an update of the information contained in the initial application.

Following the public hearings, the PGCB will decide whether to renew the licences of Presque Isle Downs and Casino, The Meadows Racetrack and Casino and Rivers Casino. The hearings will be held on 3, 4 and 5 May 2011 in Erie, Washington and Pittsburgh. The deadline for registration and the receipt of written comments for all hearings is noon on April 29, 2011.

During the hearing, the licensee will be given the opportunity to demonstrate, among other things, its good character, honesty and integrity; compliance with its statement of conditions; tax revenue generated; jobs created; amenities added since the opening of the casino; success in implementing its diversity plan and involvement in the surrounding community.
