Plenty of room for global replicas of the Las Vegas Strip

ADELSON AT FORBES CONFERENCE

The Forbes Global CEO conference has been taking place at The Ritz Carlton, Millenia and Sentosa in Singapore. One of the speakers was Sheldon G Adelson, Chairman and CEO of Las Vegas Sands Corp, who said he would like to see more mini Las Vegas Strips around the world. At the end of August his company opened the first resort casino on the Cotai Strip in Macau, expected to soon emulate the Las Vegas Strip.

According to Adelson there is room in Asia for more of these casinos. He suggested that gambling dens should become entertainment centres and that Asia could support between 8 and 12 cities like Las Vegas. The Las Vegas Sands CEO went on to describe gaming as Disneyland for adults, integrating casinos with other offerings to increase profits, and that Europe, South America, Russia, Turkey, India and the Middle East would all provide opportunities.

The two integrated casino resorts under construction in Singapore will offer far more than gaming. Las Vegas Sands is building the Marina Bay Sands, which will have 2,500 hotel rooms, luxury retail outlets, restaurants and convention facilities. A more family oriented casino resort is being developed by Genting on Sentosa Island. It is intended that the two projects should change the image of Singapore and attract many more tourists to the country. (E-09.12.07)
