The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has reported the revenue figures for August table games play at the nine operating casinos, the first full month of play. PGCB Executive Director Kevin O’Toole says the first full month of operation of table games has shown table games are very popular in Pennsylvania and that casino operators are now beginning the task of optimizing operations to meet the demands of their customers.
“The casinos continue to refine their table game operations including the correct number and mix of games to meet patron demands. I expect that will continue to change somewhat over the next number of months as the casinos work to best meet the expectations of their players.”
So far only Parx Casino has electronic gaming tables, which made gross revenue of just over US$150,000 in August from a total of nine tables. There are presently 636 table games in the state’s nine casinos, which made gross revenue of US$34.55 million. State tax due in August is US$4.84 million. Harrah’s Chester Downs has the largest number of table games, 99, which made gross revenue last month of US$5.9 million. Presque Downs, with the smallest number of table games, made US$1.89 million from their 48 tables.
SugarHouse Casino, which has just become Pennsylvania’s 10th casino, will make Philadelphia the largest US city with a casino. It is opening with 40 table games and 1,600 slot machines and Philadelphia will get 4% of SugarHouse gross revenue. Philadelphia’s second casino, Foxwoods, has yet to be built despite being awarded its casino licence, and has been paying daily fines since December for failing to provide information about its financing, design and construction.
