AGA’s responsible gaming education week

‘LET’S TALK’ THEME

Responsible gaming education week (RGEW), organised by the American Gaming Association (AGA), starts today. Casino properties around the country have been asked to support and participate in RGEW events and the AGA provides what it calls collateral materials in English and Spanish. Amongst these are posters, buttons/stickers, ribbons, table tents and keychain wallets. There is also a brochure ‘Talking With Children About Gambling’.

The theme for this year’s RGEW is ‘Let’s Talk About Responsible Gaming’ and the AGA is encouraging gaming industry employees to initiate conversations on the subject at home, on the job and in the community. The theme focuses on the role of employees as ambassadors for the responsible gaming message and stresses the importance of talking about responsible gaming practices with casino customers, colleagues, friends and family.

In August 2005 the AGA launched its first television public service announcement (PSA) about responsible gambling. Frank J. Fahrenkopf Jr, president and CEO of the AGA, commenting on the PSA said, “As the gaming-entertainment industry continues to expand, it’s never been more important to promote responsible gaming behaviour and emphasise how seriously our industry takes this issue.”

The National Center for Responsible Gambling (NCRG) was founded in 1996 with funding from the AGA. It was the first and is the only national organization exclusively devoted to funding peer-reviewed scientific research that helps increase understanding of pathological and youth gambling and finds effective methods of treatment for the disorder and to conducting public education about responsible gaming research.
