Sanya in the Hainan Province of south China was recently the site of possibly the largest religious activity since the formation of the People’s Republic of China. A grand ceremony was held to enshrine what is reputed to be the world’s largest Buddhist statue, Guanyin the Godess of Mercy. The statue stands 108 metres high and is one of the area’s tourist attractions. Known as China’s Hawaii with a warm and sunny climate the year round and beautiful beaches, Sanya should make an ideal location for conference attendees. (E-07.19.05)
