Sonco Gaming, founded in 1995, has been named as the preferred developer of a new casino complex, the first in New Brunswick, Canada, along with partners Clairvest Group, Nevegante Group and 2050631 Ontario Inc comprising investment companies and shareholders. Costing around $90 million the project on the outskirts of Moncton should be completed by 2010 and offer permanent employment for some 400 people.
The provincial government issued a ‘Request for Proposals’ for the operation of a new gaming facility, with an 11 March deadline for applications. Last Thursday Finance Minister Victor Boudreau announced that the Sonco partnership had won. When operational the casino is expected to produce approximately $25 million for the government.
Sonco was the developer of and project manager for the very successful Great Blue Heron Charity Casino, which opened in 1996 on the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation in Ontario. Sonco was also the project manager and developer for the Grey Eagle Casino located adjacent to the City of Calgary that opened in December last year, which it operates on behalf of Tsuu T’ina Nation.
The Navegante Group is led by Larry J Woolf, the company that won the bid for the creation of Casino Niagara in 1996. Presently involved directly with 10 casinos in Nevada, Woolf is part of Amazing Holdings, the group pushing for casino licensing in Taiwan. The destination casino project on Penghu Island was initiated eight years ago and last month received the support of president-elect Ma Ying-jeou. (E-05.12.08)
